What am I all About?
Hi, my name is Samantha or Sam. I'm 14 and I love to draw. My favorite medium is pen and ink. I mostly do sketches. Some would say my drawings are strange. I prefer to say they are quirky. I draw because its my passion and I hope that my drawings will bring smiles to people's faces as they have to mine!
Influences
My first major influence is James Polisky (http://www.jamespolisky.com/). My parents took me to the SOWA (South Of Washington) Market in Boston in the summer of '09, and Mr. Polisky had a booth there. I was blown away by his ink sketches. Just like me he does quirky, yet awesome pictures! I consider him one of my HERO'S!
My second influence is obviously Tim Burton (http://www.timburton.com/). His imagination and sketches are amazing. Most people recognize his name from movies like "Nightmare Before Christmas" but I would encourage you to check out his site. His sketches and other pieces of artwork including his animations are unbelievable (in a good way)!
Finally, there's Neil Gaiman. His incredible imagination has sparked mine. Many of my own ideas have come to life because of him. His work of course with the great Tim Burton is incredible. What does Cancer have to do with this?
Well, this is where it gets interesting. A few years ago, one of my friends, Jessica Arena was diagnosed with cancer. It was the first time I had any exposure to the disease and it completely changed my perspective on life. Visiting her in hospital I realized that this awful disease impacts so many more children than I realized, some even my age. So I've decided to use my ability to do what I can to fight cancer. That is why ALL of the profits from the sale of my merchandise will be donated to the Jimmy Fund.
